Still life painted in situ in our back garden. Sunflowers are one of the archetypical still life subjects. On painting them for the first time I realised why. Their colours and shades plus the wildness of their petals lend themselves to being expressive with the brush. Here I have contrasted them with Hydrangea flowerheads and leaves from our garden which are far less wild but their shades of blues, violets and pinks are wonderful to mix.
