Inspired by the gospel of John chapter 1 verse 5 which says,
The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
I have painted a composition of several images wherein light is shining in the darkness during the life of Jesus. First as God the creator represented via the Helix nebula, often labelled the eye of God, shining and looking down on the other scenes from the darkness of space. Secondly from the gospel of Luke chapter 2, the glory that shone around the shepherds on the hillside before they travelled to see the baby in the manger.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
Thirdly, we see the light of Jesus shining out of the that holy place into the darkness of the town in darkness. Fourthly, allowing for some artistic licence in timing, the gospel of Matthew chapter 2 verse 9, talking of the wise men, says,
After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.
Fifthly, the cross seen as a root/route from death to life has a door ajar at the base in the earth through which the light of Jesus shines out into that place beneath as 1Peter chapter 3 verse 19 says that Jesus was
preaching to the spirits in prison.
And finally Jesus says in John chapter 9 verse 5
As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
And in Revelation chapter 22 verse 16 he says
I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.
Seen here as the rising sun’s light shining into the darkness of the empty tomb as in Gospel of Luke chapter 24 verse 6 angels state,
Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here but has risen.
